Your Voice, Our Future

This project was created during the Summer Semester 2024 as part of the course "THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN. Animated Infographics in Political Communication," taught by Prof. Klaus Dufke and Prof. Lisa Bucher at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam.

As part of the Brandenburg state elections, we created animated videos to inform viewers about elections through engaging infographics. My video, titled "Deine Stimme, unsere Zukunft – Warum sie einen Unterschied macht" ("Your Voice, Our Future – Why It Makes a Difference") emphasizes the importance of voter participation and was showcased at the Brandenburg State Center for Civic Education.

Key Achievements

  • Created an animated video about voter turnout.
  • Visualized the influence of non-voters through data-based infographics.
  • Applied a minimalist animation style using Illustrator and After Effects.
  • Presented the work at the Brandenburg State Center for Civic Education.

Technologies Used

  • Adobe Illustrator: Character and visual design.
  • Adobe After Effects: Animated sequences and transitions.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro: Final video editing.
  • Figma: Project structure and storyboard planning.

Challenges and Learnings

Learning After Effects was one of the biggest hurdles. The complex nature of animating meaningful infographics that are both clear and captivating demanded patience and experimentation.

This project taught me how to plan and animate educational content while keeping the audience engaged. I also developed more confidence in working across multiple Adobe tools in one cohesive workflow.

Outcome and Reflections

The video was showcased at the Brandenburg State Center for Civic Education and received positive feedback. It reinforced my interest in political communication and using design for democratic participation.

For future projects, I aim to build on this experience by exploring interactive formats and diving deeper into animation for civic engagement.
